Land and topographical Surveys
Land Surveying, recently termed ‘Geomatics’, is the discipline of mapping and measurement. The services offered by land surveyors include land or topographical surveys, boundary surveys, preparation of measured building plans and elevations for architects, dimensional ‘setting out’ for construction sites, earthworks and volume calculations, river and estuary surveys, 3D monitoring of structures such as dams and buildings and precise sub millimeter measurement.
Completing in the form above will give you a list of names and the contact details of Land Surveyors who cover your area. You can then make direct contact.
Land or Topographical Surveys are accurate, scaled maps or plans of the earth’s surface features including rural and urban landscapes, lakes, rivers, woods, street furniture, fences, hedges etc. They can be large scale to include farms or routes of new motorways or smaller scale to include building plots or proposed industrial development. Utility services, levels, contours, underground drains, tree types, land use, etc may also be included. Areas and distances may be scaled from the final drawings.
Boundary Surveys allow the legal records of ownership to be compared to the actual measured position of boundary features. An accurate topographical survey will record and plot the present and historical positions of disputed boundaries. Computer analysis then allows comparison with Deed or Land Registry plans to assess ownership
Measured building plans, floor plans and elevations are accurate, scaled representations of the size and layout of buildings. These are used by architects for building alterations, designing extensions, space planning, or merely to record or measure floor areas. Drawings are prepared on a computer and can be presented in any scale required
Setting Out is done by a land surveyor when the design of a housing development, industrial complex or a new road is complete. Using the design plans and land surveying instruments (such as Total Stations and GPS) they may accurately ‘set out’ the position, level and orientation of the proposed development on the ground.
Earthwork quantities and volumes may be measured and quantified for quarries, mines, extractive industries, new road construction and landfill. This may be to record quantity or for the purpose of assessing royalty payment.
River and estuary surveys can be prepared to measure the depth of water, possible dredging requirements, rate of tidal flow, beach erosion and deposition. Such details can be used to provide the necessary information for the preparation of flood risk assessments.
3D Monitoring is carried out by land surveyors if it is suspected that a structure (building, dam, pylon or road surface for example) is subsiding or if deformation is suspected. The land surveyor may accurately and regularly monitor the three dimensional position of permanent markers secured to the structure. The measured records can then be graphed or modelled to allow trends, rates of change, movement or changes to the elevation to be studied thus allowing preventative action to be assessed.
Sub Millimeter measurement can be provided by the land surveyor. It provides very accurate measurement during the construction of aircraft, ships, submarines, bridges, railway vehicles, car production etc. Measurements are included of both the manufacturing facility and the manufactured product for quality assurance and conformity requirements.
